The 2024 Primary Election was held Tuesday, June 4, with a sad voter turnout. Statewide there was only a 17.09% voter turnout with 101,208 ballots cast out of 591,153 registered voters. In Bennett County the turnout wasn’t much better at 18% with 338 ballots cast out of 1,877 registered voters.

Secretary of State Announces the 2024 Primary Election Voter Registration Deadline

Secretary of State Monae L. Johnson encourages South Dakotans to register to vote ahead of the June 4, 2024 Primary Election. The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming election is 5:00 p.m. local time on May 20, 2024.

Photo by Mandy Scherer Bennett County High School alumni gathered in front of the old high school on Saturday, May 18, to say goodbye to the old school built in 1937. Activities were held at the Heritage Center earlier in the day where 261 people signed in from 11 states. Alumni represented every decade since the 1940s with two from the 1940s and seven from the 1950s. A meal and music was held afterward in the old gym.
