Kathol & Foster move on in 

District 27 Senator Race

The 2024 Primary Election was held Tuesday, June 4, with a sad voter turnout. Statewide there was only a 17.09% voter turnout with 101,208 ballots cast out of 591,153 registered voters. In Bennett County the turnout wasn’t much better at 18% with 338 ballots cast out of 1,877 registered voters. 

Races being voted on were District 27 Senator seats and two positions to move forward for Bennett County Commissioner.

On the republican ticket, Anthony Kathol defeated Bruce Whalen 689 to 460. Listed on the democratic ballot Red Dawn Foster beat Gerald Cournoyer 401 to 149.

In November voters will choose between Kathol and Foster for the Senate seat.

In the Bennett County Commissioner race, five republicans were vying for two spots. Moving onto the general election will be incumbent David Bakley and newcomer Taylor Scherer. Ballot counts are listed as follows:

David Bakley: 179

Taylor Scherer: 176

Robert Ceplecha: 55

Judd Schomp: 46

Chase Strand: 43

In the general, two positions will be open and sought between Bakley, Scherer, and Independent candidate Keeley Clausen.

Joe Biden unanimously took the vote for democratic presidential candidate. Defeating his opponents by more than 60% of votes.

The general election will be  Tuesday, November 5. Watch for the Booster’s special Election Section coming in October.
