Two Local Volunteer Organizations come together for a good cause

To continue the theme of National Volunteer Month, this week we look at two organizations that have come together to put on a major fund raising event. Bennett County Booster Club is known for supporting BC high school’s athletic program, helping provide things such as uniforms and equipment.

O’Neill shatters high jump record

Bennett County sophomore Rush O’Neill shattered the Bennett County High School high jump record last Friday in Spearfish with his meet winning jump of 6’10.” O’Neill broke the record set by his uncle Corbin Kratovil in 2007 of 6’6.

Sharp Tailed Grouse welcome spring with dance

Spring is here and love is in the air for prairie wildlife. LaCreek Wildlife Refuge is a great place to get in on the action. Sharp tailed grouse put on some of the most extravagant displays of affection with the males posturing and dancing at sunrise and sunset to entice the females into mating.

Local Exchange Grand Opening

The long awaited grand opening of the Local Exchange, Martin’s newest shopping experience was Friday, April 4.There were cars parked all along Main Street Friday afternoon as the community showed up to support it’s latest local venture.

Lesmeister named Region Coach of the Year

Bennett County High School head wrestling coach Lonny Lesmeister was named Region 4B Wrestling Coach of the Year recently, receiving his award at the State Wrestling Tournament.The award is voted on by all the coaches in the region, making it more special as these are his peers.

Rayhill and Wilson unofficial winners

The unofficial election results for the Martin City election held Tuesday, April 8, 2025 are in. Gary Rayhill was reelected Mayor of Martin, receiving 103 of the votes cast. Robert Fogg Jr. received 10.Joyce Wilson took the Ward 3 seat with 42 votes. Tyler Nollett received 14.

Trump to become 47th President of the United States 2024

The much anticipated General Election of 2024 is somewhat in the books, with voting completed but not all counted statewide and nationwide as of Wednesday morning.Voter turnout was large in this year’s General Election with a massive turnout by early voters.
The Bennett County Sheriff’s Office and the Martin Police Department have merged and now are working together. The new, combined force is left to right: Stuart Bucholz, Doug Lucero, Anthony Aronov, Kevin Curtis, Chase Frank, Jason Erwin, and Chrissy Lewis. Not pictured are: Beth Moore, Kenny Denison, John Waters and Tanner Goss.
