By Tim Huether The Stanley County Buffs had their hands full early on with the Bennett County Warriors in high school boys basketball play Feb. 5, in Martin, but they would pull away as the game wore on and take home a 69-39 road win.
Bennett County fell behind 10-0 to start the game in a hole, but dug in and rallied back to tie the game on a Caysen Soderlin three pointer late to end the first quarter deadlocked at 16.
Shooter Frederick scored the first points of the second quarter, spotting Bennett County a two point lead, but the Buffs responded with a 11-0 run to take charge.
The Buffs got hot to end the first half, connecting on three consecutive three point baskets and took a 38-23 to the half.
The start of the third pretty much put a lid on the Warriors hopes as Stanley County scored the first 10 points to lead 48-23.
Soderlin scored six points in the quarter but Stanley County took a 63-34 lead to the final quarter. Both teams struggled to score down the stretch and the Buffs picked up a 69-39 win.
Freshmen Caysen Soderlin and Rush O’Neill led the way with 13 and 10 points respectively. Devon Featherman added 8, Hayden Risse 3, Blair Louden 3, and Shooter Frederick 2 points.
Stanley County was led by Broch Zeeb with 22 and Eddie Duffy with 20 points.
