Lady Warriors fall to Lady Tigers 69-35

By Tim Huether It was tough sledding against White River for the Bennett County Lady Warriors basketball team Jan. 23 in White River, losing 6935.

Bennett County scored the first points of the game on a short jumper by Sophia May, but the points would be hard to come by for a while as the Lady Tigers scored 20 straight points to end the first quarter leading 20-2.

After trailing 27-2, Freshman Jadyn Standing Soldier stopped the streak by scoring on a nice move to the basket. Amia Cottier stole the inbound pass to score another basket for Bennett County to make it 27-6.

Standing Soldier added another field goal and Madi Waln scored a basket and the score would be 39-11 at the half.

White River would go up 52-17 after three quarters to take full command of the game and they coasted to a 69-35 win.

Standing Soldier scored six fourth quarter points to lead the Lady Warriors on her way to 10 points off the bench.

AmiaCottiertallied7points, Madi Waln 5, Hadley Schomp 3, Raven Heathershaw 3, Dixie Heathershaw 2 and Sophia May 2.

“They have a very nice team,” remarked head coach Duke Waln. “Offensively, they have a very good motion offense and they share the ball well. We talked to our girls after about this is what we are building toward offensively, unselfish basketball and trust. This game reminded all of us that, although we are getting better, we have to keep working on improvement.”

Player of the game is Jadyn Standing Soldier.

The Bennett County JV stayed unbeaten with a resounding 48-10 win over White River.

The young Lady Warriors shot out to a 19-4 lead after one quarter with Kaylee Byrne tossing in six points in the frame.

A low scoring second quarter resulted in a 23-10 score at the half.

In the second half, Bennett County cranked up the defense, holding the Lady Tigers scoreless while putting up 28 points for the dominating 48-10 win.

Reagan O’Neill led the offense with 11 points. Harley Harris and Kaylee Byrne added 8 each, followed by Madi Waln with 6, Jadyn Standing Soldier 5, Peyson O’Neill 4, Caetlyn Fry 4 and Rylee Hicks 2.
