Correction: Last week’s list of kids in the Blackpipe Singers who went to Pierre, should have included Nevaeh Morrison.

Church services at St John Lutheran Church were canceled on Sunday morning due to heavy drifting in the churchyard and on the roads. Weather had cleared enough by afternoon to allow the Blackpipe Community to hold their regular meeting at the Community Building.

Tim and Tammy Merchen had a stressful but blessed week, all at the same time. Grandson Korbin’s birthday was Jan.13th; he turned 1. But Sunday the 14th he and his mom took an ambulance ride from Chadron to Rapid City. He was a very sick little boy but he greatly improved and was able to come home on Thursday afternoon . Thankfully, he is doing much better. Merchen’s kept Tre while Taylor, Kevin and Korbin Coy were at the hospital. They all celebrated Korbin’s birthday this weekend.

Over the weekend Jake Black Bull, Jeff and Jackie Garman were among those who helped Joe Kary close up the Parmelee house. That home was built by David Parmelee in the early 1900’s by the town’s namesake. The Kary family moved furniture, etc. to the old Kary Store in Mellette County.

We are celebrating no wind and warmer temperatures-less ice to chop this week. Jesse made it out to appointments in Rapid City on Friday. He and I went to Marla’s house on Saturday, finally able to see most of the family and little ones again.

After all the headaches of the past few weeks, doing laundry on Sunday afternoon our water went out! Finally a day when we could get out and get things done normally, Jes had to deal with plumbing. We are just thankful it didn’t happen a week ago.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those in our neighborhood who are, or have family members who are suffering with illness or hardship. We don’t say it often enough, but we treasure you.

Have a good, warm week.
