On 3/7/2023 the Bennett County Department of Equalization released to the tax payers the first notice of assessment changes that were to be implemented. From this first notice one could only see the dramatic assessment increases, it wasn’t until after the tax notice arrived that you realized what it all meant. When compared to the 2022 tax rates, my personal assessment values increased on average 72 percent while the new tax amount due increased 28 percent. We not only have high inflation, high cost of living (food and fuel), the local police stopping 223 motorists in one month (November 2023), but now we have their heavy tax burden to put up with. I don’t think I will be very receptive to any talk of additional taxes namely the “OPT OUT” - watch for it! /s/ David C. Hancock
