Cody-Kilgore outlasts Bennett Co. in overtime, 68-62

By Tim Huether It took five periods to settle the score between Bennett County and Cody-Kilgore last Friday night in Cody as the two teams went to overtime in high school boys basketball play.

The home Cowboys rode away with a 68-62 win over the Warriors who played hard despite playing in their third game in four days.

Cody scored the first eight points of the game but the Warriors scored the next six led by four from Rush O’Neill. The Cowboys would lead 1410 after one period.

A three pointer by Blair Louden and a field goal by Shooter Frederick put the Warriors on top 15-14 to start the second quarter.

Cody would take a 26-18 lead, but Frederick dropped in a three pointer, followed by a field goal by Caysen Soderlin making it 26-23. The Cowboys would take a 32-25 lead at the half.

The two teams played fairly even in the third quarter with Cody holding a slim lead at 49-47 heading to the fourth quarter.

In a low scoring fourth, the Warriors tied the game at 56 on a shot by Caysen Soderlin with four seconds to play, sending them to the extra period.

From there, Cody got hot and pulled away for the 68-62 win.

Caysen Soderlin led the Warriors with 18 points, followed by Shooter Frederick with 17 and Rush O’Neill 12, Blair Louden added 9 and Christin Poor Bear 6 points.

In the JV game, the Warriors took home a 23-18 win. Billy Waln and Malcolm Herman led the JV with 6 points each. Hayden Risse added 5, Camden O’Bryan 2, Wyatt Huber 2 and Ben Theurer 2.
