The Bennett County Booster II welcomes open forum letters. Letters are to be a maximum of 500 words in length and about a public issue, not personal issues.
Thank yous in letters will be removed as they need to be placed in a paid advertisement. Letters will be edited to correct spelling only and will be subject to acceptance or rejection at the editorial staff’s discretion. Letters that may be libelous as well as unsigned letters will not be published. Letters may be sent via e-mail, but must be accompanied by a signed hard copy. Letters must be signed with the author’s legal name, address and phone number for purposes of authentication. We will publish only your name and town you live in. We will not accept hand written letters that are not clearly written.
Open forum letters are printed free. An individual may only submit up to two letters per calendar month, or one per election. Letters concerning personal issues, such as neighbor disputes, etc., will not be published. If a topic has been discussed previously, we reserve the right to reject letters stating the same information. Letters from outside the community or issues that do not affect the community are unlikely to be published.
No letters concerning an election or election issue will run within 10 days of an election, unless it is addressing comments made in another letter or story that are untrue or inaccurate and warrants clarification. No letter endorsing a candidate will be allowed, but may be placed in a paid advertisement.
Precedence will be given to letters from subscribers, and readers in the local area, with regard to current issues in Bennett County and south central South Dakota. The Bennett County Booster II, its owners, publisher, editor and staff members assume no responsibility, legal or otherwise, for opinions expressed in letters to the editor.
