The snow is finally melting, though the drifts will last for some time yet. We had fog for days but on this Monday morning, it has finally lifted and there is beautiful sunshine.

Nathan (not Brian! I apologize Nathan) Mitchell and Morgan Taft traveled to Mitchell, SD on Saturday where Morgan participated in an alumni track meet.

On February 1st Kathy Black went to the White River High School boys’ basketball game and watched her grandson Mateo Black Bear play. She listened to her granddaughter Nevaeh Morrison with the Blackpipe drum group as they performed the Lakota flag song. Kathy also spent time with her other grandson Tyree Black Bear who was also attending.

Bruce Ring’s birthday was Wednesday and he got a big surprise. Daughter Steph flew in from North Carolina and surprised him while he was having lunch in Rapid City. Bruce, Jessie and Steph went to the Black Hills Stock Show for a few hours on Saturday. Steph and a friend went to the rodeo that night. She was supposed to fly out early Sunday morning but her flight got cancelled due to fog so Steph didn’t leave Rapid till later on Sunday.

Noreen Krogman attended the Cottonwood Ladies Aid meeting last week held at Karen O’Bryan’s home in White River. All members were present so they took a group picture. Sonny and Noreen drove to White River and took in the doubleheader boys/girls basketball game on Thursday against Wall. They also attended the benefit for Beckie Sherwood held at the Methodist Church.

Marla Ferguson spent several days in the Black Hills last week. She stayed with Mary Lou Ryder by Hot Springs and the ladies traveled to see family in the area.

Norris Elementary School is having Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, February 8th, from 4 to 8 pm. All parents and guardians (Black Pipe Community, Corn Creek Community, Red Leaf Community, and Norris Community) are invited to a meal, a look at your child’s progress, and a visit with the teachers.

David Ferguson represents Norris Elementary playing with the White River Middle School basketball team. The Black Pipe Singers performed at the Girls High School basketball game last Thursday evening. The Black Pipe Singers of Norris Elementary have been invited by the Rosebud Tribal President Mr. Scott Herman to perform for the Tribal Council at the Tribal Council Chambers in Rosebud, SD on Thursday, February 15th at 10 am. We are so proud of all the students at Norris Elementary.

A BIG thank you to Mr. Krogman, Rich Charging Hawk, and Mrs. Crystal Charging Hawk for beautifying our school with a new facelift on our front doors. They look great!
