Abbie Alexander knocks down a three

The Bennett County Lady Warriors snapped a three game losing skid by defeating Philip Saturday in Martin 55-44 in girls high school basketball.
The Lady Warriors jumped to an early 8-0 lead before closing the opening quarter on top 11-4.  Abbie Alexander and Brooke Bair tossed in four points each and Megan Slattery added three to account for the 11 points.
After leading 18-13, Bennett County used an 11-0 run to propel them to a 29-13 lead with under a minute to play in the half. The Lady Warriors closed the half leading 31-16. Alexander tossed in nine in the quarter to lead the offense.
Bennett County put the game out of reach early in the third as Taryn Lessert scored back to back baskets and Tania Risse added a field goal to make it 39-16.
Philip scored the final three points of the quarter to make it a 41-26 game.
Bennett County held a comfortable lead the rest of the way with the Scotties making a shot at the buzzer for a 55-44 Bennett County win.
Sophomore Tania Risse, playing just her second game of the season following a knee injury during Volleyball, played well off the bench, tossing in eight fourth quarter points and 10 for the game.
Abbie Alexander had her best game of the year, pouring in 16 points. Tania Risse and Brooke Bair added 10, Taryn Lessert 8, Megan Slattery 4, Allie Morrissette 3, Rebecca Vander May 2, and Lexie Amiotte 2.
Josie Guptill led Philip with 15 points.
In the JV game, Bennett County had one of their better performances of the season, toppling the Lady Scotties 36-17. Kalee Kratovil led the Warrior offense with 8 points. Lexie Amiotte added 7, Kimmy Scherer 6, Tania Risse 6, Autumn Kamerzell 5, Haley Peil 2 and Sabrina Fanning 2. Tia Guptill, a seventh grader, led Philip with 12 points.
The Lady Warriors face a good White River team Jan. 24 in White River, then host the second ranked St. Thomas More Jan. 27
