“The golf course is so pretty and peaceful,” remarked Mary Ann Nelson. The same sentiment was shared by Phyllis Shepardson as they prepared to participate in the weekly Ladies League play at Markota Acres Golf Course.
The two golfers are both in their early eighties, but continue to be successfully active on the golf course.
Phyllis has been golfing for nearly 60 years, adding that she has been golfing “seriously” for the past 35 years.
“I enjoy everything about it. Once you start you are hooked. If you make a good shot it makes you want to come back for more.”
Mary Ann has been golfing since Markota Acres was first built. She was also a cook and waitress when the restaruant first opened.
“I have always been athletic. It feels good to be on the golf course. You can enjoy the quiet of being here by yourself, or you can enjoy the company during tournament play.”
The ladies didn’t take much time for visiting during our interview. They were anxious to get to the lush green grass of the course as they joined their friends for another round of golf.
