Bennett County competed in a long day of volleyball at the Philip Scottie’s Invitational, Saturday, September 10th.  The Warriors finished the day with two wins and three losses, placing 6th out of eight teams, giving up the consolation championship to Lead/Deadwood.
The ladies started the morning with a win against Kadoka: 25-20, 25-23. We were without Megan Slattery (our libero) and hoped that our back-row could adjust.  We really focused on communication throughout the day.
Taylor was 1/1 setting, 17/18 hitting with 5 kills, had one dig, 6 solo blocks and one assisted block. Megan W. was 5/5 serving with 2 aces, 10/12 hitting with 4 kills, 10/11 receiving and had 13 digs. Brooke was 3/3 setting with one kill assist, 5/5 serving, 16/20 hitting with 4 kills, 10/11 receiving and had 4 digs. Rebecca was 25/27 setting with 11 kill assists, 3/3 serving, 4/5 hitting with 2 kills, 4/4 receiving, had 3 digs and one assisted block.
Shayla was 16/17 setting with 6 kill assists, 6/7 serving with 2 aces, 3/3 hitting, 1/1 receiving, and had 2 digs. Noelle was 1/2 setting, 5/6 serving, 10/11 hitting with 5 kills, 2/2 receiving and had 7 digs. Lindsay was 4/4 serving with one ace, 2/3 receiving and had 2 digs. Bobbi was 4/4 setting, 1/1 hitting, and 1/1 receiving.
For the next game in pool-play, the Warriors played Colome. It was a winnable game, but we made too many unforced errors and lost 20-25, 24-26.  Taylor was 1/1 setting, 9/12 hitting with 5 kills, she had one solo and 3 assisted blocks. Megan W. was 7/8 serving, 7/11 hitting with 2 kills, 13/14 receiving, had one dig and one assisted block.
Brooke was 1/1 setting, 1/3 serving, 10/14 hitting with one kill, 5/5 receiving, had one dig and one assisted block. Rebecca was 25/30 setting with 7 kill assists, 12/13 serving with 5 aces, 1/1 hitting and had one dig.
Shayla was 16/20 setting with 5 kill assists, 6/7 serving with one ace, 4/4 hitting with 2 kills and had 2 digs. Noelle was 1/2 setting, 7/7 serving, 5/5 hitting with 3 kills, 5/9 receiving, had 2 digs and one assisted block. Lindsay was 3/3 serving, 7/9 receiving and had one dig. Bobbi was 7/8 setting with one kill assist, 2/2 hitting, had one dig and 2 assisted blocks.
The last game of pool-play, our Warriors came up against Belle Fourche. The Broncs had some big hitters, but we played pretty cool-headed and made some good plays, losing 19-25, 7-25. Megan Winter had to leave for the day, so we adjusted our lineup again.

During the first round of the consolation bracket, BC played Jones County and fought hard for the win: 28-26, 22-25, 30-28. It was good to see their determination win out.
The long day was taking its toll and we struggled to stay low and talk.  The score was tied several times, including 26-26 in the first and third game, but some smart serves, hits and stuff blocks won the game.
