Bennett County rebounded from Friday night’s loss to New Underwood to topple the Cody-Kilgore Cowgirls Saturday in Cody, 38-29. It was a first half with little offense as Bennett County led 5-1 after one quarter and 15-10 at the break.
Cody-Kilgore made it a close game after three quarters to trail the visiting Warriors 22-20, but Bennett County pulled it out in the end with a 16 point quarter to just nine for the Cowgirls.
On Friday, Bennett County took a quick 9-2 lead on visiting New Underwood on Parent’s Night, led by four points from Senior Harriet Standing Soldier. New Underwood used a three pointer and a late basket to close the gap to two points at 9-7 before Brooke Bair’s basket spotted the Warriors an 11-7 lead after one quarter of play.
Bair hit a three pointer to start the second and Senior Laura Hodson scored the next five Warrior points to put Bennett County up 19-10.
Bennett County went cold from there and missed several easy basket opportunities to let New Underwood climb back in the game, trailing 19-16 with two minutes to go in the half.
It was 21-20 when Warrior Brooke Bair buried a three pointer with seven seconds left in the half, making it a 24-20 game at the buzzer.
Bennett County shot back to an eight point lead on a three pointer by Taryn Lessert for a 33-25 score, but that lead quickly evaporated as the Lady Tigers scored 11 unanswered points to take a 36-33 lead late in the third quarter. A Brooke Bair score and a Tiger score made it 38-35 heading to the fourth quarter.
Bennett County would rally back and tie the game at 40 on a Harriet Standing Soldier three pointer, and take the lead on a jumper by Abbie Alexander, but cold shooting again sank the Lady Warriors as New Underwood rattled off nine straight points for a 49-42 lead. An Alexander score broke the ice, but New Underwood scored the games final points, all from the free throw line for the 52-44 win.
Brooke Bair had a team high 13 points, followed by Harriet Standing Soldier with 10, Abbie Alexander 8, Laura Hodson 7, Taryn Lessert 3, Rayel Livermont 2 and Tania Risse 1.

Bennett County fell to Little Wound in a make up game Feb. 8 in Martin, 54-43.
After an early tie at four, Little Wound shot to a 10-6 lead, then 13-8 at the quarter break on the strength of three threes, all from different players.
Little Wound started the second quarter by sinking back to back three pointer for a 19-10 lead, but Bennett County scrapped back after a time out to trail 19-15 on a three pointer by Brooke Bair and a free throw by Laura Hodson and Harriet Standing Soldier.
Little Wound added a field goal to end the first half scoring with the visiting Lady Mustangs leading 21-15.
Little Wound again used the long ball, making a pair of them to start the third, going up 29-19. Bennett County responded for a while to trail 29-22, but from three it was all Little Wound as they out-scored Bennett County 14-2 from that point to go up 43-24 at the end of the third.
A late Warrior rally fell short and Little Wound held on for the 54-43 win.
Tania Risse led the Warrior scoring with 10 points. Abbie Alexander added 9, Harriet Standing Soldier 8, Laura Hodson 5, Brooke Bair 5, Rayel Livermont 4, Megan Slattery 1 and Kaitlyn Rayhill 1.
