Warriors pelt badgers, win back to back games

The Bennett County boys high school basketball team has won four of their last five and two straight games after rolling by Valentine, Neb., last Saturday, taking a 53-48 win.
The Warriors played one of their better all around games of the year, committing just six turnovers, mixed with a balanced scoring attack and solid bench play.
“We played our style of game, a very sound game with good scoring balance,” said coach Ken Soderlin. “It was a great win for us and puts us in a good place in the power points. We’re working hard for home court advantage in the playoffs and Little Wound and us are battling for the higher seed.”
“Everyone played well but I felt Dayre Evans had an excellent game for us,” said Soderlin. “Wade Porch and Will Schulz played well off the bench and Ryan Risse was strong on the boards for us.”
Bennett County had their best opening quarter of the year, putting up 20 points to lead 20-13 after one quarter. They extended the lead to eight points at the half with a 34-26 score. They led by nine, 42-33 heading to the final quarter before holding on for the 53-48 win.
Ryan Risse led the Warriors in scoring with 12, followed by Dayre Evans with 11, Eli Livermont 9, Grant Strain 9, Kaipo Heath 6, Wade Porch 4 and Will Schulz 2.
 In the JV game, it was all Valentine in a blowout win, 70-36. The Badgers put 24 points on the board in the first to just 7 for the Warriors. Bennett County closed the gap to eight at 34-26 at the half, but a 21 point third shot Valentine to a 55-34 lead after three, before pulling away for the 70-36 win.
Will Schulz put up 10 points. Wade Porch added 8, Jacob Waln 5, Jon McDonnell 5, Layne Livermont 2, Joel Pauly 2, Enos Poor Bear 2 and Kray Krolikowski 2.

Bennett Co. falls to Red Cloud 91-39

Red Cloud showed why they are one of the best teams in the state by drubbing Bennett County 91-39. The Crusaders put 23 points on the board to just 6 for Bennett County in the first. It was over at the half as the hosts were up 57-19, before Red Cloud won it.
Ryan Risse led the Warriors with 9 points, Dayre Evans 8, Grant Strain 7, Will Schulz , Eli Livermont 2, Colin Kuxhaus 2, Bo Johnson 2, Brent Pinkerton 2, Kray Krolikowski 2, Kaipo Heath 1.
The Bennett County JV boys lost to Red Cloud Jan. 27 at Red Cloud, 71-17. Kray Krolikowski and Jacob Waln tossed in 5 points each and Will Schulz added 4, Barry Toczek 2 and Keili Heath 1.
The C team lost 42-31 to the Crusaders. Enos Poor Bear scored 8 points to lead the offense for Bennett County. Keali’i Heath added 6, Myron Dillon 5, Corey Whirlwind Horse 5, Jacob Waln 5 and Barry Toczek 2.

Warriors down Falcons

Bennett County bounced back from their loss to Red Cloud with a 49-31 win in Todd County Feb. 4. Senior standout Ryan Risse led the team with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Dayre Evans added 12 points, Eli Livermont 11, Grant Strain 6, Wade Porch 3, Kaipo Heath 2 and Brent Pinkerton 2  points.
The JV team also lost to Todd County, scoring just 9 points to 10 for the host Falcons. Jon McDonnell scored 5 points, Kray Krolikowski 2 and Layne Livermont 2.
The C team lost to Todd County 20-13 with Enos Poor Bear leading the way with 7 points. Barry Toczek, Kyler Rayhill and Corey Whirlwind Horse added 2 points each.

JV splits with White River

The Bennett County JV teams hosted White River’s JV teams last Thursday in Martin with the C team rallying for a 48-42 win. John O’Neill was tough to stop in the paint, putting up 11 points, mostly late in the game. Jacob Waln added 10, Corey Whirlwind Horse 7, Barry Toczek 7, Enos Poor Bear 6, Kyler Rayhill 3 and Myron Dillon 2.
The B team found themselves down quickly to the sharpshooters from White River, trailing 51-19 at the half. It did not get much better in the second half with White River leading 71-27 after three and 87-42 in the end.
Layne Livermont and Wade Porch led the offense for Bennett County with 9 points, Kray Krolikowski added 8, Jon McDonnell  7, Jacob Waln 5, Joel Pauly 2 and Barry Toczek 2.

Boys B and C team results from White River Tourn.

The Bennett County C team took second and the JV team placed seventh in the White River C and B boys basketball tournament recently.
The B team defeated Jones County 29-27 in the seventh place game. Layne Livermont scored 7 points, Wade Porch 6, Kray Krolikowski 5, Joel Pauly 5, Jacob Waln 4 and Jon McDonnell 2.
The B team lost to Colome 33-22, with Wade Porch tossing in 8 points, Jacob Waln 6, Kray Krolikowski 5, Layne Livermont 3.
Pine Ridge defeated the B team 45-27. Jacob Waln put in 8 points, Wade Porch 5, Jon McDonnell 4, Kray Krolikowski 3, Joel Pauly 3, Nick Fast Wolf 2 and Layne Livermont 2.
The C team took second place to Red Cloud, falling 44-40. John O’Neill had a monster game with 16 points and Keali’i Heath pumped in 14 for an outstanding offensive game. Enos Poor Bear added 4, Kyler Rayhill 4 and Barry Toczek 2 for Bennett County.
In game one on the day, Bennett County fell 29-22 to Red Cloud with Barry Toczek and Keali’i Heath each putting in 6 points. Enos Poor Bear added 4, Myron Dillon 2, John O’Neill 2 and Kyler Rayhill 2.
In game two, Bennett County lost to White River 37-33, led by Barry Toczek’s 12 points. Enos Poor Bear added 10, Keali’i Heath 9 and John O’Neill 2.
In game three, Bennett County topped Todd County 39-22. Myron Dillon put in 10 points to lead the offense. Barry Toczek scored 8, Enos Poor Bear 7, Keali’i Heath 5, John O’Neill 4, Corey Whirlwind Horse 3, Kyler Rayhill 2.
