»Bennett Co. boys shot down three times

The boys basketball team from Bennett County dropped three straight games last week, falling to second ranked Pine Ridge and solid teams in New Underwood and Cody-Kilgore.
The Pine Ridge game was over early and the Thorpes put an 85-43 pounding on the Warriors on Feb. 8 in Pine Ridge.
The Thorpes jumped on top early with a 24-9 lead after one and a 46-16 lead at the half before rolling to the win.
Bennett County was led by Grant Strain’s 17 points. Kaipo Heath chipped in 7, Eli Livermont 5, Ryan Risse 5, Kray Krolikowski 4, Brent Pinkerton 2, Wade Porch 2, Layne Livermont 1.
The JV boys also lost, falling 60-22. Wade Porch led the offense with 5 points, followed by Jacob Waln with 4, Jon McDonnell 4, Kray Krolikowski 4, Keali’i Heath 2 and Barry Toczek 1.
Pine Ridge won the C game 52-25. Jacob Waln was the leading scorer with 7, Kyler Rayhill added 4, Barry Toczek 4, Enos Poor Bear 4, John O’Neill 3 and Keali’i Heath 2.
The boys lost a close game to the visiting Tigers from New Underwood, 42-39.
New Underwood took a 7-2 lead and led 9-4 after one quarter as both teams had problems with tight rims. A Dayre Evans layup pulled the Warriors to within two at 13-11 before a three pointer by the Tigers Alex Anderson made it a five point lead. Field goals by Ryan Risse and Wade Porch and a late three pointer by Eli Livermont put Bennett County on top 18-16 at the half.
Bennett County led most of the third quarter until Kyle Oberlander’s basket with seconds left put the Tigers back on top 23-22.
Oberlander scored the opening basket of the third quarter and Grant Strain responded for Bennett County with a game tying three pointer.
New Underwood went ahead by five and stayed there for a while. Grant Strain hit two more big three pointers late to make it 41-39 with 27 seconds to play, but after a free throw by New Underwood, Bennett County missed three attempts at a three pointer to tie the game as the buzzer ended with the Tigers on top 42-39.
Grant Strain led the Warriors offense with 12 points. Ryan Risse added 10, Eli Livermont 7, Wade Porch 6 and Dayre Evans 4. The Tiger’s Alex Anderson led all scores with 16 and Kyle Oberlander chipped in 13.
The JV boys won 28-22, led by Will Schulz with 6, Kray Krolikowski 4, Layne Livermont 4, Wade Porch 3, Keali’i Heath 3, Nick Fast Wolf 2, Enos Poor Bear 2, John O’Neill 2 and Barry Toczek 2.
Bennett County fell to Cody-Kilgore Saturday in Cody, 62-53.
The Warriors led 15-14 after the first quarter and 24-22 at the half, but the Cowboys put up 20 points to 11 for Bennett County in the third to move on top, 42-35. Bennett County could not catch up and fell 62-53 to a good Cody-Kilgore team who earlier in the season defeated Gordon-Rushville.
Ryan Risse scored 17 points and Kaipo Heath and Grant Strain added 14 for the Warriors. Dayre Evans put in 7 and Colin Kuxhaus 1 point.
The JV fell 28-27 to Cody-Kilgore in a close game from start to finish Bennett County led 10-4 and 14-11 at the first two breaks but Cody-Kilgore rallied for the win.
Kray Krolikowski topped the scoring with 9 followed by Layne Livermont with 6, Wade Porch 6, Jon McDonnell 3, Will Schulz 2 and Jacob Waln 1.
Bennett County will host Jones County Feb. 18 and Little Wound the 25th for the final game of the regular season.
