Bennett County was on a roll, winning three straight girls basketball games, but the second rated St. Thomas More girls showed them early and often why they are unbeaten on the season with an outstanding starting unit and an impressive bench, as More put a 60-27 pounding on the Lady Warriors Friday night.
The second rated host Cavaliers were up 10-0 on the strength of standout Caitlin Duffy’s seven early points. Brooke Bair’s three pointer with 1:25 to play in the opening quarter snapped the cold shooting streak for Bennett County, but Duffy scored the quarter’s final five points to make it 15-3 at the buzzer.
It was 21-3 before Bair again put points on the board, making a pair of free throws. Laura Hodson and Rebecca Vander May made field goals to make it 23-9 as the Lady Warriors started to get into the flow of the game better.
More finished the half strong, putting up the final six points for a 28-9 halftime score.
Bennett County played More fairly even in the third quarter with senior Harriet Standing Soldier putting in three points and Brooke Bair two, making it a 30-14 game at the start.
More went on an 11-2 run to keep Bennett County in the distance, leading 41-16. Scores by Livermont, Vander May and Rayhill made it a 45-20 lead after three.
With mostly reserves in the final quarter, More coasted to the 60-27 win.
Brooke Bair led Bennett County with 7 points. Rayel Livermont and Rebecca Vander May added 4 each, Harriet Standing Soldier 3, Megan Slattery 3, Abbie Alexander 2, Laura Hodson 2 and Kaitlyn Rayhill 2.
Caitlin Duffy had a game high 24 points for St. Thomas More.
Bennett County rallied from a deep hole in the JV game for a 40-32 win, led by an outstanding performance by Rayel Livermont who was unstoppable late in the game on her way to 14 points. Megan Slattery dropped in 13 for a strong offensive showing. Taryn Lessert added 9 and Megan Winter and Rebecca Vander May tossed in 2 each.
