The standing crop disaster program…
Administered by FSA is known as the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program or simply as SURE-is for compensating for crop losses due to natural disasters. This crop disaster program was part of the last Farm Bill passed in 2008.
This disaster program takes into account all farms production of all crops to see if benefits are applicable. Also, Federal Crop Insurance and/or FSA’s Non-insured Assistance Program (NAP) coverage is needed on all crops to be considered eligible for crop disaster assistance.
Also, the county that the farm(s) are located in must have been declared a disaster by the Secretary of Ag or next to a county that met this requirement or lost at least 50 percent of your farms normal production to natural disasters.
Many of our producers with 2009 losses are waiting for the application period to begin for ’09 losses. FSA has just announced that those with 2009 crop loss can begin applying at their local FSA on 1/10/11. Both Bennett and Shannon counties meet the requirement of having or being next to counties with formal disaster declarations. This means that if you suffered any natural disaster loss to crops and/or were prevented from planting due to adverse weather, come in and apply so we can, ‘work’ your application and see if SURE benefits will apply to your farm.
