Noelle Risse goes for the kill against Platte-Geddes
By Coach Cindy Knecht
I am proud of our ladies and disappointed in the loss Tuesday night at the same time. We really wanted to go to state, but needed to play mistake free volleyball.
The first game was just all nerves for us and it was over before we knew what happened.. Our offense was shaky, but we served well, 42/43 over and in at 98% for the night. Lukewarm hitting early on and a few overpasses to the Panther’s front row set the tone for the first two sets.
Once we relaxed a bit, the girls found they could keep up with Platte/Geddes. Then we would try too hard, get frustrated, and then have to clam down again. I’ve told them all season that we need to stay levelheaded in every game – extreme mood-swings on the court leads to inconsistent play. The girls never gave up Tuesday night though. They played hard right to the end.
It was difficult not to get rattled at times. The Panthers had some big guns, but our girls just kept sticking their arms out and asked for more. Every one of our back row players got some amazing digs, and by the end of the match, the front row was putting up a few blocks against some of the best hitters in the state.
Our four seniors (Shilo Lamont included) have worked so hard and I know the leadership they have honed here at BC will take them far in the future. As for the rest of the team, I know the desire to win is there and we will keep working in the off-season to start next year where we left off this year.
Harriet Standing Soldier was 1/1 setting, 6/6 serving, 17/19 hitting with 7 kills, 12 digs and one assisted block. Kaitlyn Rayhill was 52/52 setting with 16 kill assists, 6/6 serving, 8/8 hitting with one kill and 10 digs. Laura Hodson was 8/10 setting with one kill assist, 6/6 serving, 6/8 hitting with one kill, 5 digs and one assisted block. Noelle Risse was 8/8 serving with two aces, 12/13 hitting with 3 kills and had one dig. Megan Winter was 1/1 setting, 1/1 serving, 6 digs and one assisted block. Brooke Bair was 8/9 serving with one ace and had 13 digs. Rebecca Vander May was 7/8 receiving the serve and 2/5 digging. Taylor Kratovil was 9/9 hitting with 4 kills and had one assisted block. Tania Risse was 6/7 setting with one kill assist, 7/7 serving, 14/16 hitting with two kills, 5 digs and two assisted blocks. Megan Slattery was 5/5 receiving the serve and 4/6 digging.
Platte-Geddes won in three sets, 25-8, 25-16, 25-20.
The Lady Warriors season record was 16-16.
