Bennett County Jr. High Volleyball team traveled to Gordon/Rushville for tournament competition on Saturday, October 2. The 7th grade team competed in Rushville; the 8th grade team competed in Gordon. Other teams in the tournament were Gordon/Rushville, Crawford, and Valentine.
The 7th grade team had a very successful day and came home with the championship plaque. Players on the team are as follows: Nicole Goetzinger, Karissa Rayhill, Courtney McDonnell, Briana Kratovil, Shawna Lessert, Shelby Marrs, Rachel Risse, Angie McDonnell and Miranda O’Bryan. Also on the team but not playing on Saturday are Charley Ward, injured, and Mia Reinhart.
The Warriors played Gordon/Rushville in the first match, defeating  the Mustangs in two straight sets: 25-23 and 25-20. Miranda O’Bryan had 5 serve points and one hit. Rachel Risse served up 6 points for the team. Shelby Marrs had 4 points. Shawna Lessert served up 1 point. Briana Kratovil had 5 points, 1 hit, and 1 tipped ball to gain points for her team. Karissa Rayhill helped the team out with 9 points and 1 hit.
In the second match, the Warriors went up against Crawford. Again, the Warriors controlled the game, played well on defense, and served strongly to win in two straight sets: 25-22 and 25-12.  R. Risse served up 10 points in the first game, with a total of 16 points in the match, plus 1 hit. K. Rayhill added 7 points. S. Lessert had 4 points. S. Marrs added 5 points. M. O’Bryan had 1 point, 1 hit.  Briana Kratovil added 1 point.
The Warrior team played three matches in a row to accommodate the tourney schedule with 8th grade playing in Gordon. By the time the team took to the floor for the 3rd match, the effects of 3 straight were starting to show. The girls played really well, but just didn’t quite have the zip and energy to execute as well as they did in the first 2 matches. They fell to Valentine 14-25 and 20-25.  M. O’Bryan had 1 point. Angie McDonnell had 1 point. R. Risse served up 4 points. S. Marrs had 4 points. S. Lessert had 1 point. K. Rayhill added in 2 points for the Warriors.
