Bennett County defeated Red Cloud in three games, 25-14, 25-22 and 25-18 Oct. 5 in Martin.
Bennett County looked sharp early, jumping to an 8-1 lead on the strength of the serving of Harriet Standing Soldier. With Harriet serving, the Lady Warriors scored six straight points.
Red Cloud made a move to close the game up with a point at 13-7, but Bennett County a seven straight point late with Brooke Bair serving put the game away and the Warriors won 25-14.
In game two, it was all tied at two, when Bair again put in some powerful serves and the Warriors scored nine straight points to go up 11-2.
Red Cloud didn’t go down easy in game two, trailing 17-7, they out-scored the Warriors 10-1 to pull within two points at 18-16. Red Cloud would eventually tie the game at 22, but Bennett County won the final three points of the game for the win.
Game three looked to be Red Cloud’s early as they hit their way to a 6-2 lead, but behind the serve of Laura Hodson, Bennett County rallied for an 11-6 lead. Red Cloud would not recover from the rally and Bennett County won 25-18.
Game stats: Harriet Standing Soldier was 1/1 setting with one kill assist, 8/11 serving with one kill assist, 18/20 hitting with 12 kills, 7 digs and two assisted blocks. Kaitlyn Rayhill was 56/57 setting with 20 kill assists, 8/8 serves 5/5 hitting with one kill and had 9 digs. Laura Hodson was 11/12 setting with 3 kills, 11/11 serving with one ace, 10/16 hitting with one kill, three digs and two assisted blocks. Shayla Allen was 1/2 setting and had one dig. Noelle Risse was 2/2 serving, 14/17 hitting with 5 kills, two digs and two solo blocks. Megan Winter was 2/2 setting, 1/3 hitting and had one dig. Brooke Bair was 3/3 setting with one kill assist, 12/15 serving with 6 aces, 4/5 hitting with one kill and 10 digs. Rebecca Vander May was 2/2 setting, 13/13 serving with 5 aces and 2 digs. Taylor Kratovil was 9/9 hitting with one kill, 3 digs and one assisted block. Tania Risse was 21/22 hitting with 8 kills, two digs, two solo blocks and one assisted block. Megan Slattery had 3 digs.
The Bennett County B team won 25-11 and 25-20.
On Thursday, Bennett County lost to Gordon-Rushville, 25-11, 25-17, 25-11. On Monday, the Lady Warriors faced Cody-Kilgore, picking up a win in four games, 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, 25-12.
Bennett County played one of their better overall matches of the year to hold off Cody-Kilgore.
In game one the Lady Cowgirls scored the first two points, but Bennett County rattled off the next eight points with Kaitlyn Rayhill serving strong. Cody-Kilgore battled back to score five straight to make it an 8-7 game.
Bennett County then out-scored the Cowgirls 9-3, to take a commanding 17-10 lead, then pulled away for the 25-18 win with Harriet Standing Soldier providing the game winning kill.
Game two saw Cody-Kilgore again jump to a 2-0 lead and they would again see Bennett County bounce back to take a 6-2 lead, but the Cowgirls stepped up their game and pulled out a hard fought 25-22 win. The game was tied six times, the last at 22, before the Cowgirls scored the final three points of the game.
In game three it was a 2-0 Cody-Kilgore lead again and again Bennett County came back. After a 13-9 Warriors lead, Bennett County ran away for a 25-15 win with Noelle Risse putting down a big kill for the final point of the game.
Game four was all Bennett County, and they won 25-12.
Bennett County won the JV game 25-7 and 25-22.
