Terri Clawson, P.A.-C. (Physician Assistant Certified) has joined the staff at Bennett County Community Health Center in Martin on October 1.
Clawson just finished up a five month volunteer tour aboard the USNS Mercy, a hospital ship through a program with LDS Charities. The ship was part of a humanitarian and civic assistance endeavor aimed at strengthening regional relationships with host and partner nations in Southeast Asia and Oceania.
At each visit the ship makes, teams of military and civilian specialists delivered valuable medical, dental, biomedical repair, engineering, and veterinary services based on the needs, as identified by the host nations.
Clawson said the ship covered more than 26,000 nautical miles, porting at places such as Viet Nam, Cambodia and islands in Indonisia.
Prior to the volunteer tour, she has worked on the Island of Tinian for two years, serving as the clinic, hospital and ER Chief of Staff in an area with a population of 2,800.
She also worked in the Salt Lake City area.
Clawson said she interviewed for a job at the clinic last year and really like the area. She likes small town medicine and the atmosphere of the hospital, clinic and ER in small towns.
She specializes in family practice and holds a BS degree in micro biology and chemistry from Brigham Young University and a Masters of Health Science from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. She is working on her Doctorate in Global Health.
In her spare time, she enjoys working with computers and needlework.
She and her husband, Kevan, have five children, four boys and one girl, and seven grandchildren.
Kevan is a writer and has published eight books, from biographies to religion based books.
She may be reached at the clinic by calling 6845-6868. Their hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday.
