The Bennett County High School Warrior’s volleyball team played well during the Belle Fourche Tournament, Saturday, September 25, finishing with three wins and two losses for the day.
The ladies started pool play against Broadus, Mont. They struggled with passing early in the game and lost the first set 14-25, but gained some confidence and charged out to win the second set 25-22. In the third, the Warriors took control. Rebecca Vander May placed some tough serves in the court and created a 7-0 spread for our team. The Hawks never recovered and went down 25-16.

In the second round of pool play, the Ladies took on Upton, Wyo., and held the momentum from the previous match, winning 25-19, 25-16. It was nice to see the team really play well together.

To end pool play we played the hosting team, Belle Fourche, and lost the first set narrowly 24-26, then got down mentally, losing 13-25. This was a match we wanted to win, but couldn’t shake the bad mood. We went from one extreme to another - it should have been a very winnable game.
Harriet was 4/4 setting with one kill assist, 12/12 serving with one ace, 12/13 hitting with 2 kills and one assisted block. Kaitlyn was 38/38 setting with 10 kill assists, 6/6 serving, 4/4 hitting with 2 kills and four digs. Laura was 2/2 setting, 3/3 serving, 4/4 hitting with one kill and one assisted block. In the first game of the championship bracket play, Bennett County encountered Lead/Deadwood. We were worried that after sitting for a few hours waiting for the bracket to start, and we wouldn’t get moving very well. We were pleasantly surprised with a 25-18, 25-22 win.
Harriet was 1/1 setting, 6/6 serving, 19/21 hitting and had two digs. Kaitlyn was 44/44 setting with 19 kill assists, 13/13 serving with 3 aces, 10/10 hitting with one kill and 9 digs. Laura was 7/7 setting with 3 kill assists, 8/9 serving, 5/6 hitting with 3 kills and two digs. Noelle was 2/4 serving and 4/6 hitting with 3 kills. Brooke was 5/7 serving with 2 aces, 2/2 hitting with one kill and had 6 digs. Rebecca was 1/1 setting, 6/7 serving with one ace and had one dig. Taylor was 13/14 hitting with 4 kills and 2 digs. Tania was 6/6 hitting with 3 kills and had one solo block. Megan S was 1/1 setting, and had 2 digs.
The win against Lead/Deadwood put the Warriors into the semi-finals where they again met Belle Fourche. The winner would move into the Championship. Unfortunately the Ladies fell short 16-25, 19-25. We held the Broncs at game point for six points in the first set and made a run for the win, but one-too-many mistakes lost that set. During the second set, we worked on staying positive so we could walk away from the tournament in a good mood. We ended playing well, as compared to the first game against Belle, we definitely communicated better and played like a team.
