Lincoln Whirlwind Horse gets a pin

This past weekend, we traveled to Red Cloud for two separate tournaments. First, on Friday was the West River Conference Tourney, which was followed by the Red Cloud Invite on Saturday.
As a team we were short Sam Ireland and Sawyer Rous for the West River Conference and came up just short of winning. Teams competing (in order of finish): Todd Co. (TC) 160, Bennett Co. (BC) 145, Pine Ridge (PR) 136, Red Cloud (RC) 63, Little Wound (LW) 24.
We did crown four champions (132 – Cody Larson, 160 – Seth Ireland, 170 Lincoln Whirlwind Horse, 182 – Dalton McCollam) with four seconds (106 – Adam Hahn, 120 – Tate Petrak, 152 – Brad Hahn) a third (145 – Brady Hicks) and two fourths (145 – Tyler Bakley, 220 – Todd Vander May).
On Saturday, the field was a little deeper with five additional teams but we were also deeper with Sam and Sawyer back in the lineup.
Team scores were as follows: Bennett Co. (BC) 173, Todd Co. (TC) 151, Pine Ridge (PR) 102, Hill City (HC) 100, Hay Springs (Hay) 65, Hot Springs JV (Hot) 61, Red Cloud (RC) 46, Rapid City Stevens JV (RCS) 36, Sioux Co. (SC) 25, Little Wound (LW) 16.
Even though wrestling is an individual sport, it is always nice to be in the hunt for the team title…it adds a little excitement and provides all of the kids an opportunity to contribute to the team score even if they don’t end up placing (we had a couple that fell into this category on Saturday).
We had eight kids in the finals with six champions (126 – Sam Ireland, 132 – Cody Larson, 160 – Seth Ireland, 170 – Lincoln Whirlwind Horse, 182 – Dalton McCollam, 285 – Sawyer Rous), two seconds (145 – Brady Hicks, 152 – Brad Hahn) and a third (106 – Adam Hahn).
