Former Bennett County High School athletic standout Pat Guptill was honored following the Bennett County vs Philip girls high school basketball game Saturday night in Martin. Guptill was inducted into the Bennett County High School Athletic Wall of Honor recently, but was unable to attend the ceremony in December. He coaches the Philip Girls basketball team.
Here is a brief history on Pat:
Pat Guptill is a 1976 graduate of Bennett County High School, lettering in Track four years, Football three years and Basketball three years. He still holds or shares Bennett County School records in the 100 Meters, High Hurdles and Low Hurdles.
He attended South Dakota State University to play football and run track. After one year at SDSU, Pat sat out a year, then attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish and excelled in football, basketball and track, playing each sport for three years. He played defensive end and receiver on the BHSU football team and still holds the school record for longest punt at 81 yards.
Pat has coached boys and girls basketball and is currently the head girls basketball coach at Philip. He is well known around the region for helping kids from any school on technique or other skills at track meets.
Pat and his wife, Mary Lou, have five children, Tate, Troy, Josie, Paul and Tia. They ranch near Quinn.
