BC boys defeat Philip, fall to Lyman

The Bennett County boys basketball team traveled to Lyman Jan. 19, seeking revenge for a big loss in the Jones County Tournament and nearly pulled out a road win, falling 44-39.
Bennett County started fast, going up 17-10 after one, then went flat in the second quarter, putting in just five points as Lyman tied the game at 22 at the break.
The scoring woes continued in the third for Bennett County as they managed just six points to 12 for Lyman. The Warriors scored 11 in the final quarter to 10 for Lyman as the Raiders held on in a defensive battle for the win.

Bennett County rebounded Saturday in Martin, topping Philip 57-33.
They jumped to an early 8-1 led with Ryan Richards and Jacob Waln each scoring four points.
Philip battled back to make it a two point game at 11-9 on a three point basket, and after a Jacob Waln three, Philip answered with another three for a 14-12 Warrior lead. Wade Porch extended the lead, scoring with four seconds to play in the quarter.
After another Scottie three pointer made it an 18-15 game, Bennett County went on an 11-0 run, keyed by four points from Dayre Evans, including a steal and layup for a 29-15 score.
Bennett County would extend the lead to 16, leading 38-22 at the half.
Another 11-0 run in the third put the Warriors up 49-22 and the finished the third on top 49-26. They would maintain that pace and finished the game winning 57-33 to move to 5-6 on the year. The Warriors host Red Cloud Jan. 26.
Jacob Waln had a big night, tossing in 16 points. Ryan Richards added 15, Eli Livermont 8, Dayre Evans 6, Wade Porch 4, Keali’i Heath 2, Will Schulz 2, Keith Hodson 2 and Quentin Red Bear 2.
Philip won the JV game 36-16. Keali’i Heath led the team in scoring with 12 points. Kyler Rayhill added 2 and Michael Nieves 2.
